Cerritos, California, February
11, 2003 -- Corelis, a leader in boundary-scan testing and
in-system programming, announced today a partnership with
M-Systems (Nasdaq: FLSH), a leader in flash-based data storage
products. Under the terms of this Agreement, M-Systems will
collaborate with Corelis to provide their customers with JTAG
(IEEE standard 1149.1 port) in-system programming tools that
will be used through the complete product life cycle.
Boundary-Scan (JTAG) is an embedded
IC technology for in-system programming and testing of digital
circuit boards and components that have been standardized as
IEEE Std 1149.1.
Many designs today are using
M-Systems’ DiskOnChip as a full boot solution, eliminating the
need for any other non-volatile device on the motherboard. In
these applications, the CPU fetches and executes the boot code
directly from the DiskOnChip instead of an external bootROM.
Using M-Systems’ True Flash File System (TrueFFS®) technology
with the Corelis-enabled option and Corelis’ ScanPlus Flash™
programming tools, users can program the DiskOnChip family of
products without writing any code and without involving the CPU.
As an added benefit, the ScanPlus Flash tool can also test the
interconnects between the CPU and the DiskOnChip I/Os.
Programming in-system is
advantageous in both development and production environments.
Engineers can quickly and easily change code stored in the
DiskOnChip memory devices during the development process. In
production, in-circuit programming allows devices to remain on
the shelf in an unprogrammed or blank state. These blank devices
can then be installed at assembly and programmed in-circuit,
thus reducing programming, handling, and tracking costs.
“We've been using Corelis’ ScanPlus
Flash for some time and we were impressed with how quickly and
easily we could deploy this technology to our customers,” said
Raz Dan, vice president of customer support for M-Systems. “Our
customers are using our TrueFFS technology in combination with
Corelis’ ScanPlus Flash™ programming tools at the early stage of
product development to program the boot section of the
DiskOnChip. We are working with Corelis to extend this
technology to contract manufacturers, of which, many are already
using Corelis’ ScanPlus boundary-scan and in-circuit programming
tools.”
“We are very excited to partner
with M-Systems and to provide their customers with
high-performance and affordable in-circuit programming
solutions,” said Menachem Blasberg, president and CEO of
Corelis. “Adding in-circuit programming enables DiskOnChip
devices to be even more easily integrated into embedded designs
and results in products being brought to market much faster.
Having a fully featured, low-cost, PC-based in-circuit
programming tool with expandability for other M-Systems products
planned in the future will make it a very cost effective
solution for hardware and software developers.”
As an additional benefit, each of
the JTAG controllers used for programming, can be used to
provide boundary-scan interconnect testing and In-Circuit
Configuration (ICP) of CPLDs using Corelis’ ScanPlus optional
boundary-scan test and programming software.
