Cerritos, CA, December 16, 2002
-- Corelis Inc., recently released an intelligent socket tester
for performing advanced interconnect tests on 184-pin DDR DIMM
sockets. The ScanDIMM-184 Boundary-Scan Socket Tester was
specifically designed to overcome several obstacles that are
presented when testing DIMM sockets for connectivity utilizing
boundary-scan techniques.
Inserting the ScanDIMM-184 into the
DIMM socket of the UUT results in placing a fully bi-directional
boundary-scan cell behind each pin of the DIMM connector,
increasing the test coverage to include not only data and
address signal pins, but also clock, control, and all power and
ground pins. Utilizing this improved cell architecture, test
pattern generation tools can then apply the most optimal
diagnostic algorithms to clearly isolate any failure under
investigation.
Until now, testing a DIMM socket
connection without the use of a Socket Tester was performed by
inserting a standard memory module into the DIMM socket and
executing a memory-pattern test via boundary-scan. To test the
184-pin DIMM socket connections using this technique, specific
patterns are written to memory and then read back for
diagnostics. This technique is limited by the amount of test
coverage it can provide, the limited amount of diagnostic
information that can be obtained once a fault is detected, and
the extended length of time it takes to execute.
“By utilizing the advanced
boundary-scan cell-architecture and improved connectivity of the
ScanDIMM-184, diagnostic tools such as the Corelis ScanPlus
Runner can give detailed fault analysis with pinpoint accuracy“
said Jim Rodgers, Technical Marketing Engineer at Corelis Inc. "
In addition, test times are greatly reduced. For large boards
with extended memories, the test time can be reduced from
minutes to just a few seconds".
The ScanDIMM-184™ Socket Tester is
fully compatible with the Corelis ScanPlus software and comes
complete with all necessary cabling. The ScanDIMM-184™ Socket
Tester is available from stock with a price listed at $985.
Boundary-Scan is an embedded IC
technology for in-system programming and testing of digital
circuit boards and components that have been standardized as
IEEE Std 1149.1. Corelis’ ScanPlus Boundary-Scan tools include
hardware and software products offering exceptional ease-of-use
combined with advanced technical innovation.
Corelis Inc., offers a broad line
of boundary-scan software and hardware products for interconnect
testing, in-system programming of Flash memories, CPLDs, FPGAs,
JTAG emulation and debugging. It includes a full range of IEEE
Std 1149.1 boundary-scan testers for the ISA, PCI, PCMCIA, LAN,
USB, cPCI/PXI and VXI busses. Corelis also provides various
engineering services and is well known for its outstanding
