Corelis
unveils the ScanPCI™ tester, enabling boundary-scan
(JTAG) testing of PCI and Compact PCI (cPCI) cards
Use of JTAG controlled parallel pin
electronics dramatically
increases boundary-scan test coverage of PCI and cPCI cards

Cerritos, CA, August 8, 2003 --
Corelis Inc., introduced today a new test module, ScanPCI, that
was specifically designed to simplify the testing of PCI and
cPCI devices and at the same time significantly increasing the
overall test coverage. The ScanPCI module increases
boundary-scan test coverage to the complete board assembly
including the circuit traces and adjacent ICs that are directly
connected to the card edge connector pins.
Previously, the traces and ICs that
interface with the edge connector of the PCI and cPCI cards have
either not been tested or required a special harness and custom
testing hardware. The ScanPCI takes advantage of the JTAG
interface built into the PCI bus to access the boundary-scan
components of the PCI-based UUT and thereby greatly extends the
total test coverage.
During testing, the PCI or cPCI
card UUT edge connector simply plugs into the ScanPCI test
module mating connector, allowing access to the boundary-scan
controllable digital I/O pins provided by the ScanPCI. To
increase overall boundary-scan test coverage of the UUT, the
ScanPCI I/O pins are fully controlled through the serial
boundary-scan bus and test patterns are applied to the ScanPCI
pins synchronously with those applied through the UUT. The
overall effect is an improved test procedure that substantially
increases the testable portion of the UUT and is simpler,
easier, and hence less expensive to construct and administer.
The ScanPCI module has an internal
ATX style power supply and fully supports 3.3V and 5V compatible
PCI and cPCI cards.
"The use of the ScanPCI module to
simplify boundary-scan testing of PCI and cPCI boards, while
simultaneously increasing test coverage by including edge
connectors and associated interface logic, significantly lowers
test development cost and greatly enhances test coverage. This
effectively reduces time to market, lowers testing costs, and
improves product quality." said Jim Rodgers, Technical Marketing
Engineer at Corelis.
