Corelis Delivers Low-Cost PowerPC™
Embedded Computer
High-performance, low-cost single board
PowerPC™
403 embedded computer
acts as a drop in solution or development system
Cerritos, CA, February 1, 1996
-- Corelis Inc., is the first company to offer a low-cost single
board embedded computer based on IBM's PowerPC™
RISC family of processors. Mounted on a small 3.4" by 3.9"
board, the SBC-403 incorporates 1 M byte of fast DRAM, up to 1 M
byte of EEPROM (128 Kbytes supplied), an RS232C serial port,
debug monitor in ROM and a JTAG boundary-scan interface.
Expansion connectors mounted on the board provide access to all
CPU signals for debugging as well as the addition of customer
designed hardware expansions.
For real time state or timing
analysis, a special mechanical design allows the use of the
HP E246A PowerPC 403GA Preprocessor Interface with Hewlett
Packard's family of logic analyzers. The combination of the
preprocessor interface and the monitor program provided in
EEPROM turns the SBC-403 into a low-cost development system. The
debug monitor allows setting of breakpoints, display and/or
modification of registers and memory, and communication to a
host system through the RS232C interface.
For demanding development
applications that require real-time emulator capabilities, the
Corelis PowerEM-403™
JTAG Emulator and source level debugger can be connected to the
standard JTAG interface connector provided on the board. The
same connector can also be used to connect IBM's RISCWatch™
400 development system.
Tom Collopy, IBM PowerPC Embedded
Tools Manager is quoted as saying: "The Corelis SBC-403 offers
our PowerPC customers a low-cost development platform as well as
an easily expandable embedded processor board. This product
enables a larger number of customers to take advantage of the
price/performance gains inherent in the PowerPC architecture."
Menachem Blasberg, president of
Corelis Inc., adds: "Not only does the SBC-403 provide the
necessary means for software debugging, the inclusion of the
standard JTAG interface allows its capabilities to be easily
expanded through the addition of the PowerEM-403 emulator or
IBM's RISCWatch 400 development system. This allows our
customers to add functionality to their development tools while
maintaining their initial investment."
Due to its small footprint, low
cost and easily accessible expansion connectors, the SBC-403 is
ideally suited as an embedded controller for equipment that
requires a high MIPS RISC processor engine. Operating at 25 MHz,
the SBC-403 can be powered from a single +5V supply.
Availability is from stock.
Corelis Inc., offers a broad line
of JTAG emulators and boundary-scan software and hardware
products including Automatic Test Pattern Generation (ATPG),
diagnostics, vector translators and a full range of IEEE-Std
1149.1 boundary-scan testers for the PC ISA bus, PCMCIA bus, VXI
bus, and IEEE-488.2.
